Aluminum railing is a good choice to put around your deck, porch, or use as stair railing. FenceTown aluminum railing panels are powder coated which will prevent peeling and cracking, and is a high quality alternative to standard paint. Powder coating will keep your railing looking great for many years unlike having to paint an iron or steel fence every so often. Aluminum railing come in pre-assembled pre-cut heights and widths. You can trim down a railing panel using a hacksaw or reciprocating saw to fit the dimensions of your deck or stairs. Specrail Railing, and Gilpin Railing, have railing panels with a breadloaf top rail. A breadloaf top rail is more comfortable and attractive than a squared top rail. Wall brackets and angle brackets are used to attach the railing panel to the aluminum post.
Deck and Porch Railing
The aluminum railing posts have either a stand alone base mount, or a welded on base mount, depending on the railing manufacturer. Gilpin aluminum railing posts are 2.5 x 2.5 inches and come with a welded on base mount. Four holes are started in the base mount for easier placement. You can make the holes any size you choose as they are started, but not drilled all the way through. When mounting posts on cement, the recommended distance to install posts from the edge is about 3″- 4″ just to be safe so the concrete doesn’t crack. The long edge of the base mount should be perpendicular to the rail. The size of the anchor bolts recommend by Gilpin to mount the posts are 1/4″ x 2 ¾”.
